About the role We have an exciting opportunity to progress Business Stream’s regulation, compliance and legal agenda, with a new role reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. We’re looking for your experience and knowledge to lead on all regulatory, compliance, risk and legal activities for the business, and to ensure that regulatory compliance is promoted and maintained across all departments.


You’ll be responsible for maintaining the corporate risk management system and providing guidance to the Leadership Team on all legislation, regulation and market rules updates and changes. You will have on-going responsibilities for influencing the development of the regulatory and market frameworks in England and Scotland and identifying and developing opportunities as a result of regulatory change. Own and manage the relationship with the regulators, seeking to influence the development of the legislative, regulatory and market frameworks. Lead the Business Stream input to the periodic regulatory reviews of retail price constraints, and input to the wholesale price control reviews as required. Respond to relevant regulatory and market consultations and oversee submission of regular and ad hoc requests for information.


Compliance & Risk Management Develop and maintain an Assurance Process to ensure compliance with the Licence Conditions and Codes, the Governance Code, Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation, providing reporting on compliance to the ELT and the Board. Legal


Working with internal legal counsel and utilising outsourced legal support where appropriate provide day-to-day legal support and guidance within the business, across areas such as employment law, data protection, competition law, and debt recovery. About you It’s essential you’ll have knowledge and experience working at a senior level in a regulated environment preferably within Utilities, Government, regulated agencies and industries (e.g. energy, telecoms, etc).


A working knowledge of Ofwat and MOSL in England, and WICS and the CMA in Scotland is desirable but not essential. An understanding of the UK political and policy environment, with reference to water and utilities is desirable. Together with your exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills, you'll be able to produce high quality written responses to consultations within tight timescales and feel comfortable presenting to the Board and Executive Leadership Team on a regular basis.


You’ll be a self-starter, a problem solver with demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and strategic thinking abilities, confident in your approach to taking on new work, and able to manage your time among several competing projects and priorities.
