Day Operator
Salary – £26,000 - £32,000 per annum depending on experience (plus benefits)
Hours – 40 hours per week covering Monday – Sunday on Day Shift Rota
Location – Millerhill, Edinburgh, EH22 1SX
As a Day Operator at FCC Environment, you will support the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the Millerhill Recycling and Energy Recovery Centre (RERC). You will be expected to work as part of the Day Operations Team handling tipping hall activities, weighbridge operations, plant and machinery use, and the management of traffic and materials on site.
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, covering 7 days, supporting the Day Operations Rota.

What will you be doing?
- Operating the weighbridge and managing accurate waste intake and dispatch records
- Safely using mobile plant and equipment including cranes, loaders, sweepers, and forklift trucks
- Managing tipping hall operations and ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation
- Coordinating vehicle movements and ensuring effective traffic management onsite
- Monitoring and reporting environmental impacts such as dust, odour and noise
- Conducting site inspections, checks, and supporting maintenance activities
- Supporting the team in providing excellent customer service and meeting key performance indicators
- Participating in team briefings, shift handovers, and promoting a safety-first culture
What are we looking for?
- Experience in a similar operator role within an industrial or waste management environment
- Experience with plant and machinery – training provided if needed
- Good understanding of Health, Safety and Environmental regulations
- Flexible, self-motivated, and a strong team player
- Reliable, safety-conscious and able to manage dynamic tasks with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Willing to take on varied tasks across the site as needed
