Eden Scott is delighted to be working with a leading University in Edinburgh who manage a superb portfolio of distinctive venues, accommodation, catering and event services at the University.


As the commercial arm of the world-leading University, which includes the conference and events team. They provide a professional operation across a broad portfolio of conferences, meetings and events, from major international conferences to day meetings and prestigious dining events (circa 2,000 events annually), held at venues across the University’s portfolio. Additionally, the team operates a large Outside Catering and Delivered Hospitality service to university buildings and to private and corporate locations across the city.


The team provides catered and self-catered residential accommodation for over 10,000 students, including community and welfare support through its residential service. They also operate 17 cafes and a range of other catering products to students and staff across the University estate.


They are now seeking to appoint a Catering and Events Operations Supervisor to join the team who will set up, deliver and clear down a range of catering, events and food and beverage services in line with departmental standard operating procedures to meet agreed customer requirements


The Catering and Events Supervisor has a vital leadership role within the wider catering team, with significant responsibility to deliver successful events and ensure their long-term success and sustainability. The post holder will hold a pivotal role in developing the highest possible levels of service and customer engagement.


Key Areas of Focus:



  • Ensure customer needs are met, at all times ensuring the quality of services being provided are in line with standard operating procedures. When required, give instruction and guide Catering & Events Assistant/s in service delivery.

  • The range of event types include: conferences, meetings, bars, drinks receptions, lunches, dinners, weddings, outside catering, delivered catering, etc.

  • Individually, or when required, as part of a team, prioritise and carry out a range of routine tasks to ensure the running of a smooth service for the allocated event/s, tasks include one or more of the following: Setting rooms/venues, service of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages, ensuring compliance with health and safety and alcohol service requirements, food service and delivery, following closing procedures for rooms/venues, security of beverage stock post event, driving University vehicles as required to deliver business requirements

  • Carry out routine record keeping such as; ensuring sufficient items are available to deliver allocated event/s, recording dirty linen, and periodic counting of cutlery, crockery and glassware.

  • Support pre-set induction programmes and development plans through on the job buddying and training of colleagues to ensure consistency in service delivery as per department standard operation procedures.

  • Following formal in-house training: Set up and basic operation of standard in-house AV equipment, ensure compliance with food hygiene and alcohol service legislation, carry out annual review meetings with a small allocation of staff, passing suggested development needs to line manager


Applying candidates should be:



  • Previous experience of supervising people and teams to deliver successful events in a hospitality, catering or events environment.

  • A strong team player who can work closely with supervisors and team members to exceed customer expectations.

  • Outstanding organisation skills and the ability to prioritise your time and help keep others on track.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to communicate with a wide range of customers.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and coach others to meet our standard operating procedures, operational health and safety requirements and core ACE values.

  • Full driving license valid for driving on UK roads as this role requires the post holder to drive University vehicles.


Salary - Up to £26,926


Working 5 out of 7 days, though their work is primarily Monday to Friday.


Full time: 35 hours per week, during busier periods, overtime is paid .
