Disability Information Scotland
Date: 15 hours ago
City: Edinburgh
Contract type: Full time
Work schedule: Full day

Help us to establish and promote Disability Information Scotland as the Number One Information Service in Scotland. Our national Helpline for disabled people, their carers and support organisations is unique in Scotland but we need you!
What difference will you make?
The role of Treasurer is so important to us - not only do we need someone to keep us on track financially and keep us viable, but even more significantly, we are looking for someone to help us formulate our vision for the future. Our Treasurer stood down after 6 years on our Board but is still continuing as a volunteer in the interim period until we recruit a replacement. This demonstrates their commitment to the aims of the charity and recognises the vital role the Treasurer plays in the charity. Your skills and knowledge will help us to grow the charity to ensure we continue to provide and extend our range of much needed support and services to disabled people, their families and carers and organisations that support them across Scotland. You will also be key in helping us to develop, market and promote our training service, investigating the potential for trading activities to increase our income.
What are we looking for?
Key skills in financial management compliant with charity/company legislation in Scotland; Experience of managing and overviewing budgets and all financial transactions to meet funders' requirements and supporting staff in their day to day activities relating to finance and fundraising; Main qualities include the ability to 'translate' financial accounts and reports to those with no background in finance matters to ensure they, in particular the Board, understand their duties and responsibilities better.
What will you be doing?
Our Treasurer will mainly inform and advise the Board on all finance matters including budgets and supervision/monitoring of expenditure and prepare reports compliant with regulatory requirements. Keeping contact with and supporting staff is essential to ensuring they are confident in their role of managing day to day finance activities. Payroll is outsourced! Participating in recruitment and other key activities such as fundraising and strategy development are also important as is engagement with the Board and other Trustees ensuring governance is strong giving reassurance to funders.
