What's the role?
Directly reporting to the Head of Legal Affairs UK & US, the Legal Counsel will join ERG’s Legal Affairs team, an international legal team responsible for providing strategic legal counsel and management of all legal issues pertaining to ERG’s business, across the development, construction and operations phases of our renewable energy projects.
This is a varied role, requiring a collaborative approach with internal teams across multiple business areas to deliver pragmatic and commercially sound legal solutions, including engaging and managing external legal counsel where necessary, across the following areas:
- Project development: advising on property, planning, grid, community benefits and consultancy contracts for ERG’s UK projects under development.
- Project construction: negotiating construction contracts and handling construction disputes for ERG’s UK projects in construction.
- Project operations: advising on operations and maintenance contracts for ERG’s UK operational projects.
- M&A: assisting with due diligence, share purchase agreements and ancillary transaction documentation for UK acquisition opportunities.
- Finance: providing legal support for financial reporting, audits and compliance matters.
- Company secretarial: overseeing corporate governance for ERG’s UK group companies, including company filings, board minutes, and shareholder resolutions, with support from external company secretarial services.
- General legal and regulatory advisory: addressing emerging legal risks, monitoring legal and regulatory changes, and ensuring compliance with UK and international laws and regulations.
What You’ll Bring:
- Qualification as a solicitor in Scots law, English & Welsh law and/or Northern Irish law
- 1-4 years Post-Qualified Experience (PQE)
- Experience in renewable energy projects (desirable)
- Fluent English
- Passion for the law and the renewable energy sector
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex legal issues to non-legal stakeholders
- A proactive “get things done” attitude
