We have a fantastic opportunity for two roles in our Group Data & AI Office at Royal London, Senior Data Scientist and Senior Data Analyst.


The purpose of the roles is to identify, define, manage, and deliver analytics, data science and Machine Learning projects to create insights, answer key business questions, solve business problems, and support decision making at all levels of the organisation. The Data Science and Data Analytics roles will be closely aligned and will work together on both the analytical and machine learning aspects of projects.

The Data Science role will also be responsible for managing the delivery of multiple projects across the team, acting as an internal SME data science, machine learning and modelling practice and to mentor and coach team members. The Data Analytics role will mirror these responsibilities for the data analytics and insights aspects of those key projects.

The Team:

The purpose of this team is to create business value through delivery of specific Analytics, Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence projects and initiatives. These initiatives will create insights, answer key business questions, solve business problems, and support decision making at all levels of the organisation. The team will also act as a Centre-of-Excellence in Analytics and Data Science, helping to take forward the Group’s capability in these areas and our ambition to become ‘Insight Led’.


About The Role:

  • Support Analysts and Data Scientists in design and delivery of Analytics and Data Science project and initiatives.
  • Engage with Stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts to identify new opportunities to apply these techniques.
  • Design and develop Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence applications, algorithms, models, and other analytics solutions.
  • Lead and support Data Scientists, Engineers and Analysts in delivery of these initiatives.
  • Prototype solutions to explore business hypothesis in an agile and iterative way which supports a learn fast/fail fast methodology.
  • Communicate findings and results of these initiatives back to the business, stakeholders, and subject matter experts to influence decision making.
  • Ensure that insight and findings are embedded into the business and that we see tangible benefits from the analytics


About You:

  • A proven track record in leading cross-functional projects to a successful conclusion
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching Data Scientists/Data Analysts
  • Experience of managing multiple senior stakeholders
  • A broad understanding of data science, BI and analytics tools and languages, such as Tableau, SQL, R, Python
  • In-depth experience of applying analytics/data science techniques including the use of predictive modelling, data mining and/or the analysis of large data sets
  • Experience of Cloud-based Data and Analytics technologies
  • Understanding of the principles of software engineering
  • The ability to work collaboratively and build good working relationships within an Agile environment
  • A drive to ensure continuous improvement and effective management of risk
