FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Software Engineer to work for our client within the finance sector. This is initially a 24-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Edinburgh.

Our client is seeking a Software Engineer to operate at Team level, who will focus on assisting in the design, development, and maintenance of software applications, gaining practical experience whilst working under the guidance of senior engineers. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in Java/Spring, Node.js, and React, along with familiarity with either public or private cloud environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of scalable and reliable software applications using Java/Spring, Node.js, and React
  • Support and enable others in leveraging data and knowledge management systems effectively
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of existing systems, processes, and procedures by identifying inefficiencies and participating in change initiatives
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyse user needs and technical requirements
  • Design and execute testing procedures based on product specifications
  • Participate in supplier and vendor-related processes as needed using established protocols
  • Monitor key risk parameters and report deviations to senior engineers
  • Engage in structured learning opportunities and on-the-job training while sharing acquired knowledge with peers
  • Apply existing processes, procedures, and precedents to interpret data and assist in decision-making

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional software development experience
  • Proficiency in Java/Spring, Node.js, and React
  • Exposure to public or private cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, VMware)
  • Understanding of version control tools (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and agile development practices
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and take initiative on tasks
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
