Join Bright Network as our Frontend Engineer (UX/UI Focused)

About Bright Network:

At Bright Network, we believe that “talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not”. We're on a mission to change that. As a leading data and tech platform, we’re building the workforce of tomorrow. With over 1 million members, partnerships with 300+ global companies, and £10M+ in venture capital backing, we’re moving fast - having launched into new markets and scaling rapidly.

Our Tech & Product Team play a core role in empowering the next generation with insights, advice and guidance to connect them with leading employers like Amazon, Google, HSBC and many more. Now, we’re searching for a Frontend Engineer with strong UX/UI design sensibilities to join our Tech & Product Team as we head into our next exciting chapter of growth.

The Role:

As a Frontend Engineer, you'll be joining our Tech & Product Team (currently a team of 15!) as part of our B2C squad, focusing on delivering beautiful, fast and accessible experiences for our student members. We're looking for someone who's excited not just by writing React components, but by crafting elegant, modern, and consistent interfaces. You'll notice when a modal feels clunky, when a form isn't accessible, or when a hover state could feel more refined and you'll have the instinct (and ability) to fix it.

Our frontend stack is based on React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS, whilst experimenting with modern UI patterns across our products. You'll work across both our UK and German platforms - the latter is a growing site with huge potential and plenty of greenfield opportunities. There's a lot of new product work in the pipeline, and you'll have a real hand in defining how it looks and feels.

What you can expect in your first six months…

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, designers and product managers to bring bold ideas to life through elegant, performant UIs
  • Take ownership of the UI quality across the UK and German platforms, improving consistency, accessibility, and visual fidelity across pages and components
  • Contribute new frontend components and UX improvements that feel native to our design system, even when they're net-new ideas
  • Help define and enforce frontend best practices, particularly in styling, layout, responsiveness, and accessibility
  • Stay up to date with emerging frontend techniques and libraries, bringing inspiration and experimentation into the team

Does this sound like you?

  • You're a frontend engineer with strong hands-on experience using React, TypeScript, and CSS to build polished user interfaces
  • You have experience in UX/UI design with a sharp eye for detail and care deeply about visual quality - you enjoy the craft of creating interfaces that are beautiful and usable
  • You're confident working closely with designers, and can comfortably fill in the gaps between high-level designs and the final product
  • You've worked on production-grade applications, and understand how to build frontend systems that scale
  • You have experience with modern tooling (e.g. Vite, Webpack, PostCSS, etc.), but you focus more on outcomes than configuration

What makes our team & culture great?

We’ve worked really hard to build the engineering team and culture that we want to work in, and we all believe we’ve built something special. We are focused on world-class engineering to build high-quality, scalable and user-centred products and platforms.

We work hard to balance our ambitious objectives with our own personal development each sprint. We operate on a “no egos” basis and push for a high-performing team with psychological safety. You’ll have a lot of autonomy and influence on our technology and processes, and will find very little red tape or unnecessary constraints here. Our drive for evidence and data-driven decisions has helped us in creating multiple products that we take a lot of pride in!

What's in it for you as our future Frontend Engineer (UX/UI)?

  • We have recently been awarded the Great Place To Work certification, reflecting our commitment to a positive and supportive workplace culture and recognising our focus on employee satisfaction, inclusivity & work-life balance
  • Join a high-growth and rapidly scaling business – we launched internationally into the German market in 2022 and have further growth planned this year
  • Incredible progression & development opportunities – year on year approx. 20% of our team receive promotions – you can check the team out on LinkedIn if you don’t believe us!
  • Enjoy 28 days’ annual leave plus two weeks off during our Christmas Office Closure. This does not include Bank Holidays, either!
  • Market-leading benefits package: flexible and hybrid working, "work from anywhere" policy, £50 monthly wellbeing budget, enhanced pension contribution via Aviva, private healthcare via Bupa, enhanced parental leave, regular team socials & more!
  • You’ll be driving forward our mission - upskilling the next generation of future talent and connecting members with opportunities they otherwise simply wouldn’t have access to!

Key Details:

  • Location: This role could be based in either our Edinburgh office or remote with quarterly travel to our Edinburgh office
  • Salary: £50,000 - 60,000
  • Start Date: ASAP

Interview Process:

  • Initial call: Initial 30-minute Zoom call with our Senior Talent Partner
  • 1st round: Technical test followed by a technical interview
  • Final round: Values & culture interview and final meeting with our Platform CEO
