Assistant Psychologist, Major Trauma Service, Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DCN), Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Vacancy Details: We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Band 5 Assistant Psychologist to work in the Major Trauma service in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences (DCN), NHS Lothian.

The DCN is located in a new purpose-built location at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France.

The post is Agenda for Change Band 5, 18.50 hours per week and the position is fixed term for 9 months.

The post holder will work alongside the senior clinical neuropsychologists in the Major Trauma Brain Injury Service to provide a service to inpatients who are admitted for assessment and rehabilitation following major trauma.

Duties & Responsibilities

You will be expected to carry out clinical work (under supervision); undertake administrative tasks for the service; and contribute to ongoing research projects.

To Take These In Turn

Clinical work: The assessment of cognition and orientation (using standardised cognitive tests of memory, attention, executive functioning, etc, including assessment of Post Traumatic Amnesia (PTA) and mood/coping of patients who are referred by nursing, medicine or allied health professional colleagues.

Administrative tasks: Amongst other duties, you will: log new Major Trauma referrals onto a database; create neuropsychology files; create patient care summaries from electronic patient records.

Research: We are a research active service, and you will be required to assist qualified clinical psychology staff in research duties, e.g. undertaking literature searches; setting up and maintaining research databases.

Key requirements: A first or upper second class honours degree in psychology is essential, ideally a degree that confers Graduate Basis for Registration (GBR) of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

Some experience of working in a neuropsychology or other inpatient acute care setting is also essential. Experience in the administration of cognitive assessments is highly desirable. You will have a high standard of written and verbal communication skills. Please see Person Specifications for more details.
