The Post

We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care As a major division within the NHS National Services Scotland the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) plays a vital role not only in the health of the people of Scotland but also on an international scale through our leading position in new product development biomedical research and donor / clinical services. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards to patient care whilst remaining internationally competitive.

The Candidate

We are looking for a friendly, confident and outgoing nurse to provide quality-nursing care for the Clinical Apheresis Unit based at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. You will help to provide and develop the plasma exchange, blood stem cell harvesting and other exciting therapeutic services. Venepuncture and cannulation skills are desirable and good communication skills are essential for this role. No experience in therapeutic apheresis is necessary as all relevant training will be given but experience in a closely related field such as Haematology or Renal nursing could be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency. Details of how to apply for, or to update, PVG Scheme membership/Disclosure will be supplied to successful candidates.

Candidates must have current NMC registration at the time of applying.

Location and Working Pattern:

This post will be based at North East BTC; participation in a peripatetic service to support activity in the SNBTS therapeutic apheresis units’ and other local hospitals can be expected. . You would be expected to participate in the Clinical Apheresis Unit on call rota, currently (1 in 5) to assist in the provision of an “out of hours” service for emergency procedures on successful completion of training.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
