Venesky-Brown’s client, a public sector organisation in Edinburgh, is currently looking to recruit a Governance and Compliance Officer on a permanent basis on a salary of £36,799-£41,418/annum. This role will be based in Edinburgh.


Responsibilities:


-Work with the Personal Assistant to the Secretary General and senior colleagues to plan the annual governance calendar, monitor actions, and support delivery.

-Manage the administrative arrangements for board and committee member recruitment and appointment, including updating candidate information packs, placing adverts, communicating with board and committee conveners and candidates, and administering shortlisting, interviews, and appointments.

-Take a lead role in the induction, continuous training, monitoring and development of all trustees, board and committee members, including researching best practice to ensure they can perform their roles effectively.

-Improve governance and compliance processes, including maintaining policy and workflow resources to keep practice up to date and effective.

-Work with the Chief Operating Officer to support the development of data and record management strategy, policy and practice, enhance data security policy and practice and support colleagues and congregations in understanding and meeting data protection and record retention requirements under GDPR.

-Serve as the initial contact for congregations on compliance matters, signposting enquirers to guidance and helping to demystify compliance for clergy and volunteers in congregations and developing guidance and templates for congregations.

-Maintain an awareness of changes in relevant legislation and the regulatory environment that may impact upon your responsibilities.

- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to help create a warm, pleasant, and hospitable working environment.

- Maintain awareness of, and comply with, fire and health and safety regulations.

- Show a commitment to working harmoniously with colleagues and stakeholders from all cultures and backgrounds.


Essential Skills:


- Experience of working proactively and sensitively with senior stakeholders, including the Chair and board members, and the interpersonal skills needed to support and gain the confidence of trustees and managers.

- Experience of developing accurate electronic record systems for retrieval, analysis, and sharing.

- Demonstrable problem-solving skills and the ability to think ahead.

- Substantial experience of managing a varied and demanding workload to deadlines.

- Ability to understand complex ideas quickly and produce high-quality reports and analysis.

- Knowledge of external statutory and regulatory frameworks and the importance of compliance and record management (e.g. GDPR)

- High levels of literacy, with a proven ability to draft user-friendly documents and proofread effectively.

- Excellent project management skills and confidence in leading arrangements for high-profile meetings.

- Well-developed governance writing skills, including the ability to draft papers.

- Ability to take initiative and exercise sound professional judgement.

- Ability to anticipate obstacles, initiate problem-solving, and develop contingency plans, even where accountability lies with others.

- Confidence to challenge established practice constructively and propose improvements.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and gain the confidence of trustees and senior managers.

- A proven ability to show discretion and diplomacy.

- Able to work effectively as part of a team and manage time well under pressure.

- Organised, efficient, responsible, and self-motivated.
