Three Bridges Recruitment are working with a purpose-led organisation based in Edinburgh, who are looking for a Payroll Assistant to join their payroll team on a permanent, part-time basis. This is an opportunity to join an organisation whose work has a meaningful social impact across Scotland.

It would suit someone who sees payroll as more than processing numbers. In this role, accuracy matters because people rely on it. You’ll be helping ensure colleagues are paid correctly and on time, supporting a small payroll team and working closely with internal teams, managers and employees across the organisation. The organisation operates a hybrid working model, with time split between home and the Edinburgh office.

Job

The role of Payroll Assistant will give you the opportunity to be involved with the following:

  • Supporting the Payroll Manager with the monthly payroll process
  • Checking payroll data entries with internal teams & reviewing absence-related payroll information
  • Calculating statutory and enhanced payments where required
  • Processing timesheets, additional hours, allowances, expenses & other authorised payments
  • Producing and issuing payslips, P45s and P60s
  • Implementing tax code changes and student loan notifications from HMRC
  • Managing payroll deductions - pensions, employee benefits & other approved deductions
  • Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and other relevant external organisations
  • Responding to employee payroll queries in a professional and helpful way
  • Checking monthly payrolls, HMRC payments, pension payments and BACS files for authorisation
  • Producing payroll reports & supporting year-end tax reporting
  • Completing payroll-related statistical returns
  • Reviewing payroll processes and recommending improvements where appropriate

You

As a Payroll Assistant, you will be skilled and/or qualified in the following:

  • Good understanding of payroll processes
  • Confident user of payroll systems & strong MS Office skills
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and to deadlines
  • Customer-focused approach when working with colleagues and employees
  • Confident communication skills across internal and external contacts
  • Proactive, flexible and willing to support a small team when needed
  • Experience within a values-led, people-focused or not-for-profit environment would also be helpful
