The Librarian is responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the library, ensuring the collection is relevant, well-maintained, and accessible. This is a part-time role combining operational oversight, collection development, user support, and public engagement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee library operations and ensure efficient service delivery
- Develop and maintain the collection by identifying gaps, evaluating materials, and ordering/cataloguing items
- Assess and manage donated materials, liaising with donors as appropriate
- Maintain accurate catalogue and borrower records, including correcting errors and tracking circulation
- Respond to user enquiries and provide research support
- Develop and maintain library policies and procedures
- Lead and contribute to events, including collection-based activities, talks, and podcasts
- Produce written content such as blog posts and library communications
- Represent the library at external meetings and professional networks
Qualifications
- Recognised library qualification with substantial library experience
- Strong understanding of library systems, cataloguing, and collection management
- Excellent organisational skills with high attention to detail
- Effective customer service and communication skills
- Strong research and analytical abilities
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively
- Proficiency in IT systems and digital tools
