McFall Recruitment Limited

Application Support Analyst (2nd Line SQL Support)

Edinburgh or Glasgow | Hybrid (2–3 days in office)

We’re looking for an Application Support Analyst to join a growing SQL Application Support team within a highly regulated financial services environment. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys problem‑solving, working with data, and supporting critical systems that keep the business running smoothly.

You’ll be part of a small, collaborative team responsible for supporting SQL‑based applications, investigating incidents, and ensuring the stability and performance of key data processes. If you have strong SQL skills, enjoy digging into technical issues, and want to build your experience across databases, data pipelines, and production support, this role offers real breadth and development.

What you’ll be doing

  • Carrying out daily system and data checks to ensure the SQL application estate is healthy and running as expected
  • Investigating and resolving 2nd line incidents, including SQL query issues, SSIS package failures, and data discrepancies
  • Supporting overnight batch processes and helping diagnose performance issues or job failures
  • Working closely with the DBA team, data engineers, and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot complex problems
  • Reviewing logs, analysing data flows, and identifying whether issues are system‑related or caused by upstream data
  • Managing tickets through the ITSM system and ensuring timely, accurate updates to stakeholders
  • Providing high‑quality support to internal teams and, where required, liaising with client technical teams

What you’ll bring

  • Strong SQL skills (Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle) — able to write, interpret, and troubleshoot queries
  • Experience supporting applications or data processes in a production environment
  • Understanding of SSIS packages or similar ETL tools (desirable but not essential)
  • Ability to investigate issues methodically and work through problems step‑by‑step
  • Comfortable working with logs, data flows, and technical detail
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to problem‑solving
  • Experience in financial services is beneficial but not required
  • Any exposure to Linux/Unix scripting or APIs is a bonus
