Energy Market Analyst


About the Role


We are seeking an experienced Energy Market Analyst to join a growing energy development business focused on battery energy storage, Data Centres and emerging energy infrastructure projects.


This role will play a key part in analysing UK electricity market developments and providing commercial insight to support investment decisions, project development and long-term business strategy. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will help shape the company's understanding of market fundamentals, revenue opportunities and regulatory change across the GB power market.


The successful candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, a solid understanding of electricity markets and experience assessing the commercial performance of renewable energy and energy storage assets.


Key Responsibilities

Market Analysis & Insight

  • Monitor and analyse developments across GB power markets, including wholesale markets, balancing services, ancillary services and the Capacity Market.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of market fundamentals, including supply and demand dynamics, price formation and system constraints.
  • Track and interpret regulatory and policy developments affecting the energy sector, including market reforms and grid connection changes.
  • Produce market intelligence reports, presentations and briefings for internal stakeholders.

Revenue Analysis

  • Support the development and maintenance of revenue models for:
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Solar and wind generation projects
  • Analyse key revenue streams including:
  • Ancillary services
  • Balancing Mechanism
  • Wholesale trading opportunities
  • Capacity Market revenues
  • Long-term procurement and tender opportunities
  • Assess how changing market conditions impact project economics and investment returns.

Commercial & Project Support

  • Provide market intelligence and analysis to support project development and investment decisions.
  • Contribute to financial modelling and commercial evaluations.
  • Support the assessment of co-location opportunities involving energy storage, renewables and large energy users.
  • Assist in preparing investment papers and recommendations for senior management.


About You

You will be a commercially minded analyst with a passion for the energy transition and a strong understanding of UK electricity markets.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and quantitative capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret complex market data and translate findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Advanced Excel modelling skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.

Experience & Knowledge

  • 3–5 years' experience within UK power markets, energy trading, market analysis or a related energy sector role.
  • Strong understanding of UK electricity market fundamentals.
  • Experience analysing energy storage and renewable energy revenue streams.
  • Knowledge of BESS revenue opportunities, including ancillary services, balancing markets, wholesale trading and Capacity Market participation.
  • Understanding of renewable energy economics and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
  • Familiarity with the UK regulatory and policy landscape, including Ofgem, NESO and market reform programmes.
  • Experience supporting commercial evaluations and investment decisions within the energy sector.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Finance, Energy Studies or a related discipline.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
