About the Role:
Great British Energy is looking for an Energy Yield Analyst to join our GBE Onshore Energy Team. This role will play a key part in contributing to projects, objectives, and wider organisational goals.
The Energy Yield Analyst is accountable for the overall success of portfolio energy performance and for providing leadership on the analytical decisions and assumptions used in the design of GBE renewable assets.
Utilising deep technical knowledge, this role is responsible for delivering high-quality analytical data that underpins the development, investment, and delivery of renewable energy projects, including onshore wind, solar PV, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The role spans all project lifecycle stages (Initiation ? Feasibility ? Development ? Definition & FID ? Execution ? Operations) and provides data-driven support across energy yield assessment, commercial viability, system integration, and portfolio optimisation.
The Energy Yield Analyst works closely with Development, Engineering, Commercial, and Investment teams to inform key decisions relating to project selection, design optimisation, investment cases, and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Energy Yield & Resource Analysis
* Develop and maintain energy yield models for:
o Onshore wind (wind resource, wake losses, turbine performance)
o Solar PV (irradiance, degradation, performance ratios)
o BESS (dispatch profiles, duration optimisation, revenue stacking) * Assess long-term generation forecasts (P50 / P75 / P90 scenarios)
* Analyse losses, curtailment risk, and grid constraints
* Lead selection of technology configurations and layout optimisation
Commercial & Investment Analysis
* Manage Financial Model inputs including:
o Energy production assumptions
o Degradation profiles and availability assumptions
o Capture price and market assumptions * Conduct sensitivity analysis (power price, curtailment, performance)
* Manage investment cases (e.g. Gate/FID papers) with analytical evidence
* Benchmark project performance against market data and prior portfolio assets
BESS Strategy & Optimisation
* Model BESS operational strategies including:
o Arbitrage and peak-shifting
o Ancillary services (frequency response, balancing) * Assess optimal system size, power/energy ratios, and duration
* Analyse co-location benefits with wind/solar assets (e.g. grid export optimisation)
* Work with Project on evaluation of revenue stacking opportunities and risks
Data Analysis & Modelling
* Build, maintain and manage analytical tools and models (Excel, Python, or equivalent)
* Integrate multiple datasets:
o Weather and resource data
o Grid and constraint data
o Market and pricing data * Perform scenario modelling and portfolio-level analysis, e.g. deploying CFD modelling and other specialist tools, e.g. BoxKite, WindPro
* Accountable for data quality, consistency, and auditability
Grid & System Analysis
* Work with the Grid Manager to analyse grid connection constraints and export limitations
* Assess the impact of:
o Curtailment
o Connection delays
o Network reinforcement assumptions * Work with Project on optimisation of hybrid systems (wind + solar + BESS)
Development & Delivery Support
* Lead analytical analysis during:
o Site screening and feasibility studies
o Concept and FEED design
o Procurement and contracting (performance assumptions) * Interface with Engineering and Procurement teams on technical assumptions
* Manage contractors conducting on-site energy measurements, e.g. Wind Measurement by Met Mast, LiDAR, SoDAR
* Work with Construction on commissioning and post-COD performance validation
Portfolio Performance & Reporting
* Monitor operational asset performance against forecast
* Identify performance gaps and improvement opportunities
* Produce dashboards and reports for:
o Development Management
o Project Governance
o Investment Committees
o Board Reporting
o External Stakeholders
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential
Experience:
* Experience in energy analysis, modelling, or a similar quantitative role
* Strong understanding of onshore wind, solar PV, and battery energy storage systems (BESS)
* Advanced Excel skills, including financial and technical modelling
* Familiarity with energy data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, and GIS
* Understanding of UK energy market fundamentals, including Contracts for Difference (CfD), power markets, and grid constraints
Desirable
Experience:
* Wind modelling tools (e.g. Boxkite, WindPro, WAsP)
* Solar modelling tools (e.g. Glint Solar, PVsyst)
* BESS modelling platforms or dispatch tools
* Knowledge of UK grid connection process and constraint regimes *
* Knowledge of financial models or investment appraisal
Qualifications:
* Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Energy Systems, or related discipline
* Postgraduate qualification (MSc) in Renewable Energy or simi
