Assistant Project Manager - HVDC / Major Infrastructure
- Location: Scotland / Inverness area - hybrid during pre-construction, predominantly site-based during construction
- Rate: £550 - £600 per day, inside IR35
- Start Date: ASAP / September 2026
- Duration: 12-month initial contract, with potential long-term requirement
Turner Lovell are recruiting on behalf of a leading UK energy infrastructure organisation delivering major electricity transmission projects as part of the UK's transition to a net-zero energy system. We are seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of a major civil and building package associated with a large-scale HVDC transmission infrastructure project.
Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will play a key role in coordinating site activities, monitoring contractor performance and supporting the successful delivery of works across safety, programme, quality and commercial requirements.
This is a site-focused opportunity offering exposure to major infrastructure delivery, NEC contract management, contractor management and stakeholder engagement within a complex, multi-contract project environment.
Role Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of a major civil and building work package from pre-construction through execution
- Work closely with the Project Manager, main contractor and wider project delivery team
- Monitor contractor performance against programme, quality, safety and project requirements
- Carry out regular site monitoring and provide updates on construction progress
- Support project controls, reporting, programme updates, risk registers and issue tracking
- Assist with NEC contract administration, including early warnings, compensation events and change management
- Coordinate interfaces between contractors, designers, consultants and key stakeholders
- Support the management of project risks, issues and opportunities
- Promote and maintain a strong Health, Safety and Environmental culture across project activities
- Assist with project meetings, reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Support effective project governance and ensure project documentation is maintained
Role Requirements:
- Experience working site-based on civil engineering, construction or major infrastructure projects
- Understanding of construction Health & Safety requirements and CDM 2015
- Familiarity with NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts, ideally with practical experience
- Experience monitoring contractors and subcontractors against programme, quality and safety requirements
- Strong organisational and project coordination skills
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience within HV transmission, energy, utilities or major infrastructure would be advantageous
