Salary: £50,000 - £60,000

This is an excellent opportunity to join an independent planning consultancy who provide a wide range of expertise to data centres, retail, and commercial projects across the UK and Ireland. They are on the lookout for an experienced and talented Principal Planner to hit the ground running for their Edinburgh office.

Duties for the role of Principal Town Planner:

  • Managing a diverse portfolio of planning projects and applications
  • Providing commercially focused planning advice to clients
  • Preparing and overseeing planning applications, planning statements, appeals and related submissions
  • Undertaking planning appraisals and advising on development opportunities and constraints
  • Providing strategic advice on planning policy and development proposals
  • Managing relationships with clients, planning authorities, consultants and other stakeholders
  • Representing clients at meetings, consultations and, where appropriate, planning committees
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and external consultants
  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of the planning team
  • Managing project programmes, budgets and deadlines

Requirements for the role of Principal Town Planner:

  • A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline
  • Chartered membership of the RTPI
  • Significant professional planning experience, ideally gained within a consultancy environment
  • Strong knowledge of the relevant planning system and development management processes
  • Proven experience managing planning applications and projects from inception through to determination
  • Experience advising clients on complex planning matters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and an ability to understand clients' objectives
  • The confidence to build relationships with senior stakeholders and planning authorities
  • Strong organisational and project-management skills
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach
  • The ambition to contribute to business development and the growth of the wider team
