Lead Data Engineer

Location: Newcastle (Hybrid) 1-2 days per week in office
Salary: Up to £80,000 + Benefits

Lead Data Engineer role joining a growing organisation embarking on a major data transformation programme. This role offers the chance to lead the migration from legacy on-premise data platforms to a modern Databricks-based architecture, helping to shape the future of the company's data capabilities.

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building and optimising scalable data solutions while providing technical leadership to a team of engineers and analyst. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to deliver high-quality data products that drive insight and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of data platforms from on-premise environments to Databricks
• Design and develop scalable data pipelines and data integration solutions
• Drive best practices across data engineering, architecture and governance
• Mentor and support data engineers/analysts within the team
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions
• Improve platform performance, reliability and scalability
• Contribute to the long-term data strategy and roadmap

Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in Data Engineering roles, including leadership or mentoring responsibilities
• Hands-on experience with Databricks
• Experience delivering cloud-based data platforms and migration projects
• Strong SQL
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines
• Knowledge of Azure data technologies would be advantageous
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
