About Us

The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.

The Role – Overview

Based at the NLB’s Headquarters in central Edinburgh (with the option of hybrid working), as Principal Electrical Engineer you will be accountable for technical oversight of all NLB Lights, Buildings  and Berth  Electrical Systems. This includes definition of planned and unplanned maintenance and renewal programmes, monitoring and implementation of relevant new technologies and be the technical approver of design and quality of electrical work. 

Responsibility for electrical safety, competency and training specifications for approximately 25 electrical discipline members of staff (electrical technicians and electrical engineers). Line management responsibility of two electrical engineers within 12 months in post.

Salary and Benefits

• £68,888 per annum rising to £75,031 after 1 year in post.

Qualifications/ Experience Required

• Chartered Electrical Engineer or evidence of submitted application
• Associated knowledge of current electrical standards and associated legislation
• Significant electrical system management experience and achievement.
• Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, quality and processes.
