Job Title: Graduate Structural Engineer

Location: Glasgow / Edinburgh

Salary: £30,000 - £37,000 (depending on experience)

Full time

About the Role

I am looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Structural Engineer to join a growing team in either Glasgow or Edinburgh. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to work alongside experienced engineers, gain hands-on experience across a diverse range of projects, and develop the technical and professional skills required to progress towards chartership.

You will contribute to projects both in the office and on-site, supporting the preparation of structural designs, engineering calculations, technical drawings, and reports. Working closely with senior engineers and project managers, you will gain exposure to all stages of the project lifecycle, from initial design and tender preparation through to project delivery.

Alongside developing your technical expertise, you will have opportunities to build your understanding of client liaison, project coordination, commercial activities, and budget management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation and development of engineering designs, calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Support senior engineers in delivering projects across the rail, transportation, energy, heavy civil engineering, and structural sectors.
  • Contribute to the preparation of fee proposals and tender submissions, gaining an understanding of the commercial aspects of engineering consultancy.
  • Attend site visits and surveys under the guidance of experienced engineers to develop practical knowledge and understand site-specific requirements.
  • Develop your understanding and application of relevant design codes and standards, including British Standards and Eurocodes.
  • Support project planning, coordination, delivery, and documentation, working closely with senior engineers and project managers.
  • Assist with monitoring project progress against agreed timescales and budgets, while maintaining effective communication with the wider project team.
  • Follow established quality assurance procedures to ensure engineering work meets the required technical and professional standards.
  • Take an active role in training and continuing professional development, building the skills and experience needed to progress towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.

About You:

  • A degree in civil or Structural Engineering
  • A genuine commitment to ongoing professional development and working towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally in English.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering design and analysis software, together with familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • An understanding of engineering design principles, technical documentation, and the importance of accuracy and quality assurance.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk software, including AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and Bentley software such as MicroStation, would be advantageous.
  • A positive attitude towards learning, adapting to new challenges, and developing new technical skills.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a professional, approachable manner.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced consultancy environment where priorities may change.
  • A full, clean UK driving licence
  • Full right to work in the UK

What comes with the role:

  • 30 days holidays.
  • Option to purchase up to five extra days
  • Annual profit-related bonus scheme
  • Life assurance that is 4X annual salary.
  • Income protection
  • Professional subscription fees covered
  • Private health care
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
