Team Manager - #2176707
Creegan Talent
Team Manager (Part-Time)
Edinburgh
Circa £35,000–£40,000 (pro rata, three days per week)
You have worked in a practice environment long enough to know exactly what good workflow management looks like and to feel the frustration when it is not there. Jobs sitting open longer than they should. Timesheets that do not quite add up. Invoices going out late, or not going out at all for work that was clearly done. You have probably thought more than once: someone needs to own this properly.
Who We Are
Steedman Accountants is an Edinburgh-based practice with a reputation for doing things differently. They work with everyone from high-growth tech startups and crypto traders to SMEs and content creators - and they do it without the jargon, the grey suits, or the corporate distance that defines most of the sector. It is a tight, ambitious team of around twenty people, and the culture is as flat and collaborative as it looks.
The Role
The Commercial Engine
The firm has grown its team significantly over the past couple of years. That growth is a good thing but it has created a genuine need for someone whose sole focus is the commercial and operational performance of the accounts and VAT teams. Not the technical work. The management of it.
You will own workflow across accounts, bookkeeping, VAT, and tax, making sure jobs progress, are completed, and close. You will review timesheets weekly, oversee month-end invoicing, monitor WIP and fee recovery, and identify work that has been delivered but not yet billed. You will run regular one-to-ones with the team, manage resource allocation, and keep the Directors informed with clear, reliable commercial updates.
The Improvement Mandate
This is also a role for someone who looks at existing processes and asks whether they are actually the best way to do things. There is genuine scope here to reduce manual administration, improve reporting, and implement automation across time recording, workflow, and invoicing. The firm wants fresh eyes - and it will give you the authority to act on what you find.
What You Need
Practice or Professional Services Grounding
You have worked in an accountancy practice or a professional services environment - legal, financial services, or similar. You understand how workflow, billing, and fee recovery operate in that context. This is the baseline.
Commercial Sharpness
You think about profitability, not just process. You know how to spot unbilled work, challenge under-recovery, and have honest conversations about fees - with clients and with leadership - without it becoming uncomfortable.
People Management That Actually Works
You manage with warmth and accountability in equal measure. You set clear expectations, follow through on them, and hold people to standards without creating a culture of pressure. Regular one-to-ones are not a box-ticking exercise for you - they are how you stay close to the team.
A Hands-On, Get-It-Done Approach
You do not wait for someone else to fix a problem you have spotted. You are organised, practical, and comfortable working directly with Directors and senior leadership.
Process Improvement Instinct
Experience with Bright Manager or similar practice management software is a genuine advantage. So is a track record of reducing manual processes and implementing automation. But more than any specific tool, the firm wants someone who looks at how things are done and immediately starts thinking about how they could be done better.

- Flexibility on working pattern to suit the right candidate
