Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: Scotland | Utilities & Infrastructure

Take ownership. Broaden your experience. Make your next move count.

Are you a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for a fresh challenge, greater variety and the opportunity to apply your commercial expertise across different infrastructure projects?

ABS Commercial Solutions is expanding its commercial team and is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a growing portfolio of projects across Scotland.

We provide commercial management and quantity surveying support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors and utility providers across the UK. Our work spans a range of utilities and infrastructure programmes, offering exposure to different commercial environments, contractual arrangements and project delivery challenges.

This is an opportunity to bring your experience into a varied project environment, take ownership of key commercial activities and continue developing your expertise without limiting yourself to one type of scheme or delivery team.

The role

You'll take responsibility for the commercial management of projects or work packages, helping drive financial performance, manage contractual risk and support successful project delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the commercial performance of projects or work packages from start to completion.

  • Taking ownership of budgets, forecasts, valuations, applications for payment and financial reporting.

  • Overseeing subcontractor procurement, commercial negotiations and account management.

  • Managing change control, variations, compensation events and contractual entitlements where applicable.

  • Administering contracts and ensuring compliance with commercial procedures and contractual requirements.

  • Identifying and managing commercial risks, opportunities and potential financial exposure.

  • Preparing and reviewing cost reports, forecasts, valuations and final accounts.

  • Working closely with project managers, operational teams, clients and subcontractors.

  • Supporting commercial negotiations and resolving contractual or financial issues.

  • Identifying opportunities to improve commercial performance and protect project margins.

  • Providing guidance and support to other members of the commercial team where required.

Assignments will vary, offering the opportunity to apply your commercial knowledge across different project environments and take on challenges suited to your experience.

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or in a comparable commercial role.

  • Strong commercial management experience within utilities, infrastructure or civil engineering.

  • Experience managing project costs, subcontractors, change control and contractual matters.

  • A good understanding of relevant forms of contract, such as NEC, where applicable.

  • Experience managing commercial risks, forecasting and financial performance.

  • Strong negotiation, analytical and stakeholder management skills.

  • The ability to work independently, take ownership and make informed commercial decisions.

  • A proactive approach to improving commercial outcomes and protecting project value.

Why join ABS Commercial Solutions?

  • Project variety: Work across different clients, frameworks and infrastructure programmes.

  • Exposure to different contractors: Support Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors, gaining insight into varied commercial operations and delivery approaches.

  • Commercial responsibility: Take ownership of project commercial activities and contribute directly to financial performance.

  • Broader expertise: Develop your experience across different contracts, schemes and project stages.

  • Career development: Continue building your technical and commercial capabilities within a growing consultancy.

  • Flexible working: A combination of home working, client offices and project sites, depending on the assignment.

Working arrangements

You'll support projects across Scotland, working from home, client offices and project sites as required. The working pattern will depend on the project, client expectations and level of site attendance needed.
