Regulatory Risk & Compliance Manager (1st Line) - #2185150
McFall Recruitment Limited
Regulatory Risk & Compliance Manager (1st Line) - Edinburgh | Financial Services
We’re partnering with a growing financial services business in Edinburgh looking for a 1st Line Regulatory Risk & Compliance Manager to help strengthen and mature its approach to compliance across the organisation.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced compliance professional who understands regulation but, importantly, enjoys getting under the skin of a business and understanding how the rules apply in practice.
Working closely with teams across the organisation, you’ll help interpret regulatory requirements, understand their impact and translate them into practical processes, controls and ways of working. This is a hands-on role where you’ll have the opportunity to build, improve and embed compliance, rather than simply oversee it.
What you’ll be doing
- Working with business areas to understand how regulatory rules and requirements apply to their activities.
- Translating regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures, processes and controls.
- Designing, implementing and improving 1st Line compliance frameworks and controls.
- Helping the business identify, understand and manage its compliance risks and obligations.
- Reviewing existing processes and controls, identifying gaps and working with stakeholders to implement improvements.
- Supporting the assessment and implementation of regulatory change.
- Building and refining compliance governance, monitoring, reporting and escalation processes.
- Working collaboratively across Operations, Technology, Finance, Marketing, Risk and Compliance.
- Helping to build greater compliance awareness, ownership and accountability across the organisation.
- Providing practical advice and constructive challenge to ensure regulatory requirements are properly embedded.
What we’re looking for
- Strong general compliance experience within financial services.
- A good understanding of the UK financial services regulatory environment.
- Experience interpreting regulatory rules and guidance and understanding how they apply to different business activities.
- The ability to take regulatory requirements and translate them into practical, workable controls and processes.
- Experience identifying compliance risks, control gaps and areas for improvement.
- Experience working closely with business teams rather than operating purely in an oversight capacity.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to advise, influence and appropriately challenge.
- A proactive, pragmatic approach with the ability to build and improve processes rather than simply maintain what is already there.
