Accountant - #2189471
Locogen
Locogen is a renewable energy consultancy providing end-to-end development services to our clients across the UK. Our vision is a world powered 100% by renewables. We are a multidisciplinary team of 45, dedicated to doing work that matters. Our team is involved in varied work across the UK including onshore wind, solar PV and battery energy storage markets.
About our Accountant role:
We are looking for a hands-on Accountant to join our Finance team, supporting the delivery of accurate, timely financial information across Locogen.
Reporting to our Head of Finance, you will be part of a team of four, working across day-to-day accounting, month-end processes, VAT and management reporting for multiple entities. You will help keep our accounting records accurate and our financial processes running smoothly, with opportunities to contribute to improvements along the way.
This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in getting the detail right and likes working closely with others. There are no direct line management responsibilities.
This is a permanent role, based at our Edinburgh (Stockbridge) office with hybrid working. Ideally, you will spend three days a week in the office. We are open to both full-time and part-time applicants, working a minimum of four days a week.
What you'll be doing:
You will work closely with our Head of Finance and the wider Finance team to support day-to-day accounting and financial reporting across the business.
This will include:
- Supporting day-to-day transaction processing and maintaining accurate, complete accounting records.
- Preparing and posting journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other month-end adjustments.
- Preparing and maintaining balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Preparing monthly management accounts for multiple entities, including working papers and commentary.
- Producing financial reports and analysis, including reviewing variances against budgets and forecasts.
- Preparing and submitting periodic VAT returns for multiple entities.
- Preparing intercompany recharge invoices and bank payments for approval.
- Reviewing supplier payment runs and supporting credit control.
- Documenting and maintaining finance systems and processes, with a focus on robust controls.
- Supporting the Head of Finance with annual accounts, tax computations and requests from external accountants and auditors.
Who would be a good fit:
We are looking for someone with strong financial accounting experience who is comfortable getting involved in the day-to-day detail as well as month-end reporting.
You will be organised, accurate and confident managing different priorities. You should enjoy working as part of a small team, communicating clearly with colleagues and taking ownership of your work.
Experience in a consultancy, professional services or project-based business is essential, alongside experience reviewing revenue recognition and making the necessary adjustments. You do not need to have worked in renewable energy before, but an interest in what we do would help you feel at home.
We are open to candidates who are qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience.
What skills / experience do you need:
- Strong experience in financial accounting and principles.
- Experience in end-to-end finance including month end adjustments and management accounts preparation.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills.
- Highly proficient in Excel.
- Experience in calculating and adjusting for revenue recognition.
- Experience in a consultancy, professional services or project based business environment.
The nice to haves – you do not need to have these.
- Experience in a multi-entity business including consolidation.
- Experience preparing and reviewing VAT returns.
- Experience of using Business Central (Microsoft Dynamics 365) including Projects module
- Experience using Kantata or other project time capture systems.
- Forecasting experience
