The Project Director is accountable for day-to-day project matters supported by Senior Project Managers and Project Managers associated with their portfolio. They are responsible for leadership of people, projects, clients and business performance. The number of project responsibilities will normally be 2 - 3 major projects together with a portfolio of smaller schemes.
We are looking for individuals with excellent major project and/or programme leadership skills and a proven track record of leading the delivery of a portfolio of projects throughout the whole project lifecycle.

A Little More About Your Role…

Accountabilities
- The Project Director is accountable for maintaining a healthy portfolio of Projects in accordance with the Project life cycle and is accountable for the success of Major Projects within the Water team
- The Project Director will be accountable for their own Projects as the Project Director
- Accountabilities includes development of new proposals, project mobilisation and the maintenance of the monthly project review cycle to ensure high quality outcomes on a proactive basis, with personal intervention as required into specific projects
- Exhibit and demonstrate behaviours and attitudes in accordance with company values through collaborative working, particularly with PMs/PDs, other Project Directors, Group Directors, Technical Leadership Group (TLG), Market and Account Directors and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)
- Visible and exemplary Health, Safety and Wellbeing leadership
- Monitor and manage a portfolio of Major Projects (circa 2 – 3)
- Define, communicate and implement a consistent delivery model for Projects within the Delivery Pillar such that adequate direction and clear expectations are provided to our project communities
- Responsible for reporting and delivery of Project financial performance to the Water leadership team
- Work with the Market/Account Directors to identify future/new major projects, building a presence in the Market through increased external engagement
- Working with the Operations, Growth and Expertise pillars to ensure effective handover, mobilisation and delivery of ‘won’ projects
- Help build a reputation for best-in-class Major Project delivery, especially for Water clients, to support repeat business and growth
- Embed a positive people first, client centred culture across the Discipline
- Playing an active role in relevant Key Client Accounts
- Co-ordinate with Heads of Discipline, TLG, PMs and PDs and SLT for the effective deployment of competent and experienced resources to the mobilisation and delivery of projects
- Lead and inspire those within Water who want to develop their career in Project Leadership
- Actively participate in our People Performance cycle, providing feedback and contributing to goal setting across the team
- Feedback on any exceptional achievement/performance (team or individual) and instances of best practise to promote the celebration of successes
- Effective implementation of Project commercial risk management controls, governance, reviews
- Effective implementation of Project Programmes and change control protocols.
- Responsible for commercial and financial performance of projects
- Ensure fees are in line with client budgets and forecasts, utilising earned value management techniques together with WIP and debt management
- Support the working capital process taking action as appropriate
Key Competencies & Experience
- Demonstrate excellent inter-personal skills with strong leadership and management abilities; capable of communicating effectively externally and internally with the business
- Establish, build and sustain strong client relationships
- Are adept at leading projects and have a strong track record of delivering desired outcomes against strategic priorities
- Can motivate teams to deliver in a high-pressure environment
- Are open to change and able to move at pace to seize opportunity
- Have strong project and commercial skills with the ability to develop innovative delivery solutions which meet client requirements, provide value for money and benefits for the business
- Are experienced in project delivery both in the public and private sector
- Have experience within Water – having worked across the markets, with a good understanding of the current and developing issues facing the sector
