A DevOps Engineer is responsible for applying software engineering principles to infrastructure and operations challenges, ensuring that the payment orchestration is scalable, reliable, and efficient. Their role encompasses various tasks from deploying software and ensuring system reliability, to optimizing the performance and scalability of the system.

Responsibilities (Must-Have Skills)

Infrastructure as Code (IaC): A Senior Engineer should have extensive experience in designing and managing complex infrastructure using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation. They are responsible for setting best practices and ensuring that the infrastructure is highly scalable and maintainable.

Software Deployment: Senior Engineers lead the design and implementation of automated CI/CD pipelines. They have a deep understanding of the software deployment process, ensuring that it is efficient and reliable, and may also mentor junior team members.

Monitoring and Logging: They are responsible for crafting a comprehensive and sophisticated monitoring and logging strategy. They have the expertise to select the most relevant metrics and set up advanced dashboards and alert mechanisms.

Incident Management: Senior Engineers take a lead role in diagnosing and resolving complex system issues. They also actively participate in post-mortem processes and drive improvements to prevent future incidents.

Optimisation: They have a deep understanding of system performance and are responsible for identifying and implementing high-impact optimizations. This may include refactoring code, tuning server configurations, and database optimization.

Security: Senior Engineers take ownership of the security of the platform, ensuring that it meets the highest standards. They are involved in regular security audits, collaborate with cybersecurity experts, and implement advanced security measures.

Effective Communications: Strong leadership communication for conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and providing clear guidance to team members.

On-Standby Responsiveness: Be on standby to respond promptly to issues, calls, and other system-related matters as they arise. Work closely with other teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues with agility.
