Salary - National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £52,400 to £61,000 and London £57,700 to £67,000 per annum (Salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

The FCA has identified potential harms arising from Appointed Representatives (ARs) and their principals, which operate in a wide range of financial markets. To address these risks of harm, the Appointed Representative Department has been set up to undertake targeted action against the highest risk business models and Principles/ARs which represent the most significant risks of harm.
The Strategy, Engagement and Data team leads on the design and oversight of the AR strategy and manages internal and external stakeholder relations and multi-firm projects. This role is all about making best use of the FCA’s data to ensure we focus our resources on the most harmful issues.
The Department’s work is fast moving and has the potential to be high-profile. The successful candidate will need to quickly evaluate datasets to identify key harms and help the team develop a rapid strategy to mitigate the harms.
This role is suitable for an experienced data analyst capable of leading complex data analysis projects (5+ years’ experience), and to help the department take a data led approach to developing strategy.

What will you be doing?
- Data Analysis: Collect, clean and evaluate large data sets from a range of sources, to identify trends, patterns and anomalies (using tools such as SQL, Tableau Prep, R and Python).
- Reporting: Develop and maintain comprehensive reports and dashboards to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Data Visualization: Create compelling visualizations to present data in an easily understandable format (using tools such as Tableau or Power BI).
- Performance Metrics: Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of business strategies.
- Strategic Insight: Contribute to the ongoing development of the AR strategy, working closely with colleagues across the FCA on a range of activities to address the consumer and market harms that can be caused by the regime.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Building, maintaining, and developing effective relationships with internal stakeholders, including negotiating with seniors and sometimes delivering tough messages.
- Teamwork: Support the wider team to shape and deliver a strategy to tackle higher risk Principals and ARs using data, intelligence and analytical tools.
- Continuous Development: Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and efficiency gains. Be prepared to put forward and guide on ideas and recommendations to improve the department’s ways of working.

Minimum
- Experience of Data Analysis: Practical data analysis and exploration experience – working with quantitative and qualitative data to produce evaluation in a variety of formats and making it engaging to the audience whilst being able to identify and articulate what the data is telling us.
- Proven experience of Data Manipulation – ability to extract and transform raw data into formats that can be easily processed or assessed.
- Experience of Data visualisation skills – including the creation of charts and visualisations using software such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Ability to quickly analyse complex information, identify key risks of harm and make robust judgments with clear and rigorous thinking.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present evaluations in a clear and compelling way.
- Excellent organisational skills – sets high standards for self and being disciplined about meeting commitments, delivering within agreed timeframes.
- Understanding the importance of making a strong personal impact, persuading with well-reasoned arguments and challenging, where appropriate.
- Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team to achieve desired outcomes, including willingness to learn and develop yourself and others.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, positively embracing new approaches and role modelling this behaviour to encourage others.
