Salary - National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £52,400 to £80,600 and London £57,700 to £88,600 per annum (Salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

The Authorisations Division ensures the firms and individuals who apply to us to be authorised or approved understand how we test they will comply with our regulation. We use authorisation to help deliver our public offer, and as a tool to protect consumers from the harm that can be caused by bad conduct in the financial services industry. The division is also home to 2 of our most important external services – our Supervision Hub and the Financial Services Register.
The Register and Authorisations Services (RA&S) department is currently at the forefront of two FCA priorities, seeking to strengthen our operational and regulatory excellence: enhancing the application journey with new forms at the gateway and improving our Financial Services Register products.
This role sits with the Operational Excellence team, our activities include Quality Assurance (QA), MI & Analytics, Business Improvement, Process Governance, Risk and Workforce Planning. We are a friendly and highly motivated team, passionate about the work that we do.

What will you be doing?
- Accountable for the effective management of the division’s operational risk framework, including management of all own risks and cross-cutting Risks of Har
- Support divisional approach to compliance and controls, including FOIA request, QA, Audit response, and records management
- Contribute to process, learning and systems improvement initiative through our close the circle framework
- Own and manage the ‘Own Risk’ process including running the 1LOD group, reviewing all meeting materials and providing feedback and comments to 1LOD (First Line of Defence)
- Support and provide reporting for the division on Risk Events: Near Misses, Emerging Risk and Risk Acceptance
- Lead on providing central oversight and assurance to the Authorisation Senior Leadership team on progress being made in response to assurance reviews and the associated/findings risks identified, complete the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) for the division
- High visibility and direct, extensive engagement across the division, including with senior stakeholders at Director and Executive Director level
- An excellent understanding of and opportunity to influence how the division operates

Minimum
- Prior experience of ‘Own Risk’ identification and compliance in a complex regulated organisation
- Prior experience of governance mechanisms and operational processes or risk management
- Prior experience of significant stakeholder management – the successful candidate will need to be able to work independently with a range of stakeholders, and flex their style to support and influence people in achieving desired outcomes, including senior management
- Experience of organisational ability and governance – understanding the importance of setting high standards and being disciplined about meeting commitments, delivering within agreed timeframes and influencing others to do so
- Prior experience in analysing complex qualitative information to identify common themes, strategic solutions and improvement opportunities by joining the dots with wider knowledge of key priorities, projects and risks
- Experience of working on own initiative including foreseeing issues and working under pressure to tight deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to help shape future approaches to risk management in Authorisations
- Attention to detail and willingness to adapt to change, positively embracing new approaches
- Understanding and/or experience of Risk and Compliance (2LOD), Internal Audit and risk assurance reviews
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills – including the ability to present analysis, insights and recommendations in a clear and compelling way
