Job Summary

The Army Communications Branch has an exciting opportunity to join our Media Team in Scotland as a Media Officer. We are searching for a keen communications professional, who has a proactive and flexible approach to work. If this makes you say YES, that’s me, we would love to review your application!

The Communications & Engagement (C&E) branch of the Army represents us in Whitehall, communicates our intent and purpose and strengthens ties with international Allies. C&E communicates Army messages using creative approaches across platforms run by Army Communications at our Headquarters in Andover. We deliver strategic comms around robust insight, objectives and evaluation. A key part of that effort is delivered by the Media Team which has Media Officers based across the UK. We work on opportunities to get Army messaging across our digital channels and local, regional and mainstream media, and new media. As a civil servant Government Communications Service professional, your mission will be to tell our story and to improve and protect the Army's reputation.

This is an exciting role involving high-profile Army activities and you’ll have the confidence and ability to handle media issues as they arise. This could include providing media advice and mentoring to regional commanders, working with stakeholders across the MoD to providing hands-on involvement at large media events and ceremonial parades involving the Army, to supporting Ministerial activities and policy announcements.

We have a real impact on historic occasions and events, showing the Army in the very best light. Army Communications Branch recently delivered media and comms for the funerals of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Proclamation of King Charles and the service’s role in the response to the Covid pandemic as well as the training of Ukrainian soldiers.

You will promote Army professional excellence. Our troops travel the world training allies, offering mentoring and humanitarian support, and delivering ceremonial brilliance to oil the wheels of diplomacy and international engagement. They use military skills to combat poaching of endangered animals, to protect vulnerable environments, combat piracy, aid those in danger and carry out warfighting operations when required.

To be this good they train constantly and a good Media Officer will use every opportunity to detail their efforts at home and abroad.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
